Problems concerning kidneys are:

  • recurring kidney infection
  • kidney pain ( usually pain in the lower back, where kidneys are situated)
  • kidney stones
  • proteine in urine
  • blood in urine
  • Hepatitis C
  • diabetes

Early signs of kidney problems are:

  • urinating more than usual - usually when kidney filters are damaged, it can cause an increase in the urge to urinate. Espacially at night.
  • An enlarged prostate gland, can also affect kidney function - urine can't flow freely from kidneys to bladder and get forced back into kidneys. Over time this can cause kidney infection. It is important to take care of the prostate gland under these circumstances.
  • Tiredness and lack of energy - a severe decrease in kidney function leads to toxin build up in blood.  This can cause people to feel tired and without energy. Another cause is anemia.
  • Blood in urine - kidney filters usually keep blood in the body and only get rid of the toxins.  When filters are damaged, blood cells tend to "leak" out into the urine.
  • Protein in urine - excess foam in urine.  Albumin is the protein present.
  • Puffiness around eyes and swolen ankles, feet or legs - sodium retention is the reason why feet and ankles swell, due to decreased kidney function.  Please note that swelling in the lower extremities can also be a sign of heart -, liver disease and chronic leg vein problems.
  • Muscle cramps is a sign of electrolyte imbalances, also because of poor kidney function.
  • Poor appetite may also be a symptoms.
